===================================================================== W I N D O W S X P ===================================================================== -[ REINSTALLING WINDOWS XP ]- This is for those of you that want to reinstall their windows xp system and know that they can run Windows XP with no problems. [1 - REINSTALL WITHOUT LOSING SETTINGS] - Boot with Windows XP CD - Press Enter when you hit the "Welcome to Setup" Screen - Press F8 to the licensing screen - Select the drive that XP currently resides on, press enter - when asked to format just select "keep current file system intact" - You will get the option to overwrite current system files and keep settings in tact - follow the on-screen directions and you should be set. [2. COMPLETE REINSTALL] first you need to make sure you have backed up all files that you need for a new install. Then follow the steps below: - Boot with Windows XP CD - Press Enter when you hit the "Welcome to Setup" Screen - Press F8 to the licensing screen - highlight the drive to install XP on, press D to delete the current partition that resides on the computer. - Press enter to partition delete prompt. - Press L to second warning screen - Now highlight the newly "unpartitioned space" and press c - Now you have following options: Format the partition using NTFS (quick) Format the partition using FAT (quick) Format the partition using NTFS Format the partition using FAT - You can choose which ever you want, I prefer you use Format using NTFS. (not quick!) The format process will begin.. - Automatically after the format is done Windows starts to extract files onto the newly formatted partition, this process will automatically reboot the computer. - Once the reboot has been done, do not boot from the cd. You will now be put into the graphical part of the setup, just follow the on-screen instructions its not difficult at all.
