* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * THE WINDOWS SERVICES GUIDE * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * compiled by: paranoidxe email: paranoidtsi@hotmail.com This is a complete compilation of blackviper's safe settings for Windows XP Service Pack 2. This will also work with Windows XP Gold/SP1 as well as Windows 2000. I did NOT make this AT ALL, I simply compiled it from blackvipers website when it was still functional. This is here simply for those who need access to his service guide. Please be careful when messing around with services, generally you are safe to disable any service and windows will prevent it if it is system essential, however some services can hurt functionality of your windows platform..below are the settings recommended to save some RAM and still have near full windows functions. *DO NOT Disable SERVICES with MSCONFIG, it is possible to disable system crucial services which can prevent your windows system from booting entirely. * BLANK entries under "SAFE" Selection indicate the service is generally not installed by default, therefore use user discretion when changing the startup type on these services. There are a few options when it comes to startup types: DISABLED - means the service will NOT load under any circumstances AUTOMATIC - means the service loads on boot, weither it is needed or not MANUAL - means it will only be launched when a program/service requests it +-----------------------------------------------------------+ SERVICE NAME "SAFE" SELECTION +-----------------------------------------------------------+ Adobe LM Service Automatic Alerter Disabled Application Layer Gateway Service Manual Application Management Manual ASP.NET State Service Disabled ATI Hotkey Poller Disabled ATI Smart Disabled Automatic Updates Automatic AVG7 Update Service Automatic Background Intelligent Transfer Service Manual Client Service for Netware Disabled ClipBook Disabled COM+ Event System Manual COM+ System Application Manual Computer Browser Disabled Cryptographic Services Automatic DCOM Server Process Launcher Automatic DefWatch Automatic DHCP Client Automatic Diskeeper Automatic Distributed Link Tracking Client Manual Distributed Transaction Coordinator Manual DNS Client Automatic Error Reporting Service Disabled Event Log Automatic Fast User Switching Manual Fax (SP1 Name) Disabled FTP Publishing Disabled HTTP SSL Manual Help and Support Manual Human Interface Device Access Disabled IMAPI CDBURNING COM Service Manual Indexing Service Disabled Internet Connection Firewall (SP1 Name) Automatic IPSEC Services Automatic IPv6 Helper Service Automatic Logical Disk Manager Manual Logical Disk Manager Admin Service Manual Macromedia Licensing Service Automatic McAfee Firewall Service Automatic McSheild Automatic Message Queuing Automatic Message Queuing Triggers N/A Messenger Disabled MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Disabled Net Logon Disabled NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Disabled Network Connections Manual Network DDE Disabled Network DDE DSDM Disabled Network Location Awareness Disabled Network Provisioning Service Disabled PDEngine Manual PDScheduler Manual NVIDIA Driver Helper Service Disabled Peer Name Resolution Protocol Peer Networking Peer Networking Group Authentication Peer Networking Identity Manager Performance Logs and Alerts Disabled Plug and Play Automatic Portable Media Serial Number (SP1 NAME) Disabled Portable Media Serial Number Service Disabled Print Spooler Automatic Protected Storage Automatic QoS RSVP Disabled Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Manual Remote Access Connection Manager Manual Remote Desktop Help Session Manager Disabled Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator Automatic Remote Registry Service Disabled Removable Storage Manual RIP Listener Routing and Remote Access Disabled Secondary Logon Disabled Security Accounts Manager Automatic Security Center Disabled Server Disabled Shell Hardware Detection Automatic Simple Mail Transport Protocol Simple TCP/IP Services Smart Card Disabled Smart Card Helper Disabled SNMP Service SNMP Trap Service SSDP Discovery Service Disabled System Event Notification Automatic System Restore Automatic Task Scheduler Automatic TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Disabled TCP/IP Printer Server Telephony Manual Telnet Disabled Terminal Service Manual Themes Manual Uninterruptible Power Supply Disabled Universal Plug and Play Device Host Disabled Upload Manager Disabled Volume Shadow Copy Manual WebClient Disabled Windows Audio Automatic Windows Firewall/ICS Automatic Windows Image Acquisition Manual Windows Installer Manual Windows Internet Name Service Disabled Windows Management Instrumentation Automatic Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extension Manual Windows Media Connect Disabled Windows Media Station Disabled Windows Time Disabled Wireless Zero Configuration Disabled WMI Performance Adapter Disabled Workstation Automatic World Wide Web Publishing World Wide Web Publishing Service +-----------------------------------------------------------+ NON-MICROSOFT BASED SERVICES +-----------------------------------------------------------+ [ADOBE LM SERVICE] Manages licensing between Adobe products, required if you use Adobe products that require activation.
