SICK OF ANTI-TOBACCO COMERCIALS Damn do they get old. Its one thing to tell everyone how bad tobacco is, but its quite another to make smokers look like a bunch of low life pricks. What do I mean? The other day I was listening to the radio at work and heard a commercial that talked about this girl that was SOO ashamed of smoking she would hide behind the building at work to get a drag. Further more this girl goes on about how she thought she'd never do it and she doesn't like anthing about it. Yeah, this is a realistic view on a smoker isn't it? Damn if you really ARE like that you need to QUIT now. What kills me even more is that many of these antitobacco commercials are funded by...yes you guessed it, the Tobacco Industry. Does no one realize that? Let me express my opinion about some things: - Not everyone is ashamed of the fact that they smoke, in fact most aren't or they would have quit already. - Second Hand smoke is not nearly as harmful as these comericals would like you to believe. Yes it is bad for you but its not going to increase the risk of lung cancer/heart disease/etc. by 1/3rd or anything like that. The whole second hand smoke thing is a gimmick to get non-smokers to hate smokers. Which is absurd. - I'm sick of the whole theory that passive smoke (2nd hand) is unfiltered therefore more dangerous. Bullshit. Smoking the cigarette goes into a person's lungs much MORE pure than smoke blowing around in the atmosphere, if anything 2nd hand smoke is LESS harmful than first hand smoking. - The tobacco industry does NOT need young teens to smoke, so they can replace the dying smokers. Thats like saying McDonald's needs youth because of the people rapidly dying for heart disease from their products. - The statistics of amount of people die each year from smoking ALONE is a bunch of shit. How many of these people would have died anyway had they not started? Statistics are lies and are there for shock value, statistically with all the STD statistics everyone would have some sort of STD. STATISTICS LIE. - It'd be interesting to see where they come up with some of their statistics, cause this one just kills me. "For every eight smokers who die from using tobacco products, one nonsmoker is killed by secondhand smoke." I'm not condoning smoking to anyone, in fact I hope if you are a non-smoker you choose to stay that way for your sake. I, however find the Anti-Tobacco movement becoming absolutely ridicious in the way they show "facts" and the way they try to push the views that Smokers are evil.
